Pedro Rodriguez, Ph.D., (born 1953 in Brooklyn, New York), is the Director of a test laboratory at NASA and inventor of a portable, battery-operated lift seat for people suffering from knee arthritis.
Pedro Rodriguez was born to the renowned Puerto Rican salsa singer, Pellin Rodriguez and Elba Lopez Perez, who met in New York while Pellin's band was touring.
Rodriguez enrolled in the University of Alabama to pursue a masters degree.

Rodriguez's parents, both Puerto Rican, met in New York where his father Pellin's salsa band was touring, and his mother worked as a secretary for American Express.
Rodriguez joined the Marshall Center in 1976, working under German rocket scientists Erich Engler and Gus Kroll, building test equipment for what would become the strust used to separate the external tank and solid rocket boosters from the Space Shuttle.
Coincidentally, Dr. Robert Hackett, faculty advisor to both Rodriguez and Jan Davis at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, moved to the University of Mississippi in Oxford.
