Penang Free School is the first and oldest English School in the South East Asian region.
The school founded by Rev. Sparke Hutchings in the year 1816, is located on the island of Penang, Malaysia.
The Motto of the school is Fortis Atque Fidelis (pronounced for 'tiz ud' kway fi' deliz) which is a Latin phrase for Strong and Faithful.

PENANG Free School 'A' retained the Bayview challenge trophy at the close of the eighth Penang Bayview Chess League last Sunday.
The three-corner race between Chung Ling High School 'C', St Xavier's Institution 'A' and Penang Free School 'C' for the winner's purse in Division One was expected to be close, but CLHS 'C' surprised everybody by trouncing Penang Development Corporation 4-0 to finish as Division One champion.
Police met Westlands Secondary School and won 3-1, while PFS 'D' discovered that their similar 3-1 result against Chung Hwa Confucian School 'B' was insufficient for them to head the table.

Coming from a bustling city like Penang where something like this could only happen in dreams, I was totally skeptical of what the seniors were trying to feed our tiny little brains.

PENANG Free School (PFS) turned on the power in the Penang Schools Sports Council Boys' Under-18 Group B Island Zone hockey competition at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hockey Stadium yesterday.
The Free School boys, who play in the second division of the national Junior Hockey League, racked up a total of 28 goals and that too without many key players.

The RAAF school on Penang Island functioned as a pre-school, primary and secondary school for dependants of Royal Australian Air Force personnel deployed at Butterworth from 1962 to 1988.
The school closed in 1988, but the memories last forever!
Brian Millett, staff member at RAAF School from 1966-1968, is working on a book which I believe to be a very worthwhile project and with which I think a lot of us could help Brian with.

I first 'knew' Arul in Penang Free School when I just entered the school and he was one of the outstanding seniors amongst others like Eddie Choong and other badminton greats.
I would say that seniors like Arul and then the late Tan Peng Huat gave the younger ones lots of inspiration to follow their footsteps.I never saw Arul again until in Canberra, Australia in 1963/4 when he was Service Advisor.
He was one of Templers "Superb 12" After completing his Pre OCTU at Port Dickson, Col. Khong was sent to UK to do the officer training at Eaton Hall and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, He was in Intake 14 and obtained the highest place in the Order of Merit for overseas officer cadets.
