Pendon Museum, located in Long Wittenham near Didcot, Oxfordshire, England, displays typical scenes on the Great Western Railway (GWR) of the 1920s.
There is a nearly exact scale model of the Vale of the White Horse on one level, with a viaduct of the type designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the designer and builder of the GWR.
Founded by the late Roye England, the layout is run a by group of volunteers, and is open to the public most weekends and holidays.

Viewing Pendon Museum takes 30-90 mins and requires walking and standing, we do have a chairlift to gain access to the 1st floor.

A seperate exhibit captures the excitement of railways of this era as a cavalcade of trains moves across a superb Brunel viaduct on the edge of Dartmoor.

Heard assures me that there is still some two year’s work to be done to complete the scene, a great deal of progress has been made since that article first appeared.
However, in about 1980, when Angus Pilton and museum founder, Roye England, were on one of their periodic trips around the Vale, they spotted Wharf Farm just north of Uffington, whose house and its adjoining buildings had belonged to Uffington Wharf.
These showed not only a single-storey lock cottage which was just what we were looking for, but also a rather fine ‘tail bridge’ which carried the towpath across the canal at the bottom end of the lock.

Unbelievably, a new contender for the title ‘smallest miniature’ at Pendon has emerged to beat the famous robin redbreast into second place – a butterfly can now be seen perching on a cabbage in the Vale scene.
With the scenes modelled to the scale of 1:76, (normal scales for human figures are around 1:12), creating a butterfly is no mean feat.
