Despite the exposure the band had enjoyed there was still no recording contract on the horizon and difficult decisions had to be made.
Barney’s contribution to the band was huge and the Barrett/Barnfield writing team was very strong, however Barney decided to leave, it was too big a gamble to give up his day job and so during a break in touring he made the difficult decision to quit.
The band now had a real firecracker of a drummer underpinning the rhythm section which brought a renewed need to fight and the passion and energy of the band was almost like they were 17 years old again for the upcoming Believe tour.

a for a girlfreind and she was his girlfriend until April 1979, after the band broke up.  They were the long term couple of the band, the only one that lasted the entire history of the band, eleven years.
That was the beginning of m association with this group that will eventuall become known as Pendragon.  The name "Timne"  didn't last even a few months from that day, not because of not liking the name, a group from Oakland had put out an incredible album which was all over the charts.

That was 1983, this is 1997; and Pendragon are back with an album which has moved on in leaps and bounds but still encapsulates those hazy days of youth.
In the meantime it has won the Classic Rock Society award for Album of the Year, while Pendragon were acclaimed Band Of the Year 1996. Pendragon consists of founder members Nick Barrett on guitars and vocals, and Peter Gee on bass guitar together with the multi-tasking Clive Nolan on keyboards and Fudge Smith on drums.
Pendragon were part of the early 80's UK prog revival along with the likes as Marillion, Pallas and Twelfth Night. They should have been able to match Marillion's commercial success, but somehow it never happened.

It's the closest Pendragon have come to a straight-out "new age" piece, with layers of keyboards, etheral female voices (is that Gaelic I hear?) and a spacey "talk box" guitar solo.
God bless a band like Pendragon who can change and mature and yet still hold onto the instrumental and emotional quality for which they are known.
Pendragon were on hand during the early 80's for what was later dubbed the 'neo-prog' scene which also included IQ, Pallas, Twelvth Night, and of course Marillion.

Pendragon established with this album their name worldwide and because of that a world-wide tour followed.

Pendragon started way back in 1977, and have the same line-up ever since 1985, something rather odd in the current music industry.
The style of Pendragon has definitely evolved over the years and an album like The Jewel (1985), their firstborn, can hardly be compared to The Masquerade Ouverture.
At times this song is remniscent of Pink Floyd, escpecially some of the guitarlines, a band that Pendragon often leans to.

Many of the other track are taken from singles and 12 inchs recorded by the band before and after the release of their 1997 album "Kowtow", and most of them feature the more familiar Pendragon line-up featuring prog keyboard master Clive Nolan, and percussion dynamo Fudge Smith.
But I for one have always liked the bands more mainstream side (although the melodic prog of later albums is certainly their perfect "niche").
However, if you are a fan of Pendragons lush and beautiul progressive rock, and youd like some more of it in your collection- then this compilation stands as a fine historical document of a certain period in the bands devolopment...and a taste of things to come!

I found myself enjoying or finding stage presence and banter to be sometimes almost as important a factor with some bands as their music.

 Blackstone Valley Celtic Festival - Review of the 2nd Annual Festival, July 2004
From the opening ceremony with the Tulach Árd Pipe Band marching across the kelly green field to the final, showstopping performance of Scotland's Celtic Rock band Wolfstone, over 4,000 fans gathered at King Farm in Sutton, MA reveled in Celtic music and culture.
The day-long event featured many outstanding performers: the Robbie O'Connell Band, Pendragon, Aoife Clancy, Laura Cortese, the John Whelan Band, and Wolfstone performing on the main stage, and Charlie Zahm, Rù-Rà Maggie Carchrie and Thomas Leigh, and Jodee James performing in the Celtic Village second stage.
Special mention must be made of John Whelan and his band; only a week prior to the festival, Whelan was hospitalized with a life-threatening illness, but he had recovered and offered a soulful, moving performance all the stronger for his ongoing recovery.

— I'm not a neo prog lover, but this band is one of the old monsters of the genre and this album is a very good chance to know the Pendragon's works through the years.
Band members were songwriter Nick Barrett (vocals, guitar), Peter Gee (Bass), Fudge Smith (drummer) and Clive Nolan (Keyboards).
Whichever, what Pendragon offers is a very well executed extension and elaboration of the great ones that preceded them and there's nothing wrong with that.

Stark and confessional -- lyrically and theologically, the band has been heavily influenced by C.S. Lewis, and the surrealistic overlays of watercolors, Lewis quotes, and psalm fragments on the cover art add a dimension to the album (although not conveying the starkness of the music before you hear it).
The Collaboration Element is a Christian progressive rock instrumental band out of Dayton, Ohio, playing music which combines the progressive rock elements of 70's bands like Yes and Kansas with the more modern prog rock influences of bands like Dream Theater/Liquid Tension Experiment, Rush and the Dixie Dregs.
Ten Point Ten, a popular band renowned for their Transiberian Orchestra-like Christmas tunes, shows they know how to bring prog to the masses with one of my favorites from the disc, The River, a song, to my ears at least, seems inspired by early Genesis.
