All but the Verdin and Fire-capped Tit make elaborate bag nests hanging from trees, usually over water; inclusion of the Fire-capped Tit in this family is disputed by some authorities.
There are 13 species in 5 genera, following Harrap and Quinn, Tits, Nuthatches and Treecreepers.

 Rare Birds in Lincolnshire Penduline Tit, Barton - April 2001
As I took stock of the breeding bird activity in the shelter of the hawthorns I noticed one of the local pair of Long-tailed Tits sitting motionless on the outer limb of a small hawthorn on the edge of the pit.
It was repeated and a small bird dropped from behind the Long-tailed Tit into the base of the adjacent reedmace.
Still not really believing the possibility at hand it was only when a cracking male Penduline Tit climbed up the reedmace stem and settled to feed on the fluffy head that it really sunk in—I had found a long-hoped for bird not only in Lincs but on my very local patch.

Held a good variety of birds including Audouin’s Gull, Penduline Tit, Bluethroat, Lesser Short-toed Lark and Stone Curlew, different birds were seen on each visit, and you felt anything could turn up at any time.
Along this, the small reedbeds on both sides held Penduline Tit and Bluethroat, Lesser Short-toed, Crested and 3 Thekla Larks were feeding along the track plus several Kentish Plover on the small pools.
On returning to the car drive a few yards up the road to another turning on the right that will take you inland and around to a large lake and the grassy/stony area, as well as  Flamingos and Audouin’s Gulls on the lake Blue Rock Thrush can be found on the cliff-face.
