Peng Chau (坪洲 in pinyin: Píngzhōu; in Jyutping: ping4 zau1; literal meaning: "Flat Islet") is a small island located off the north-eastern coast of Lantau Island.
Peng Chau is known for its small island lifestyle, accessibility to fresh seafood, and many temples located around the island (including a Tin Hau temple built in 1792).
Peng Chau is accessible by a ferry (New World First Ferry) from Central on Hong Kong Island, or by ferries from Mui Wo, Chi Ma Wan and Cheung Chau, or by Kai-to ferries from Discovery Bay on Lantau Island.

Peng Chau is the closest island to our home base at Discovery Bay, but it remains a favorite.

The monastery is located in a relatively inaccessible part of the island so first we took a ferry from Central (the downtown district of Hong Kong) to the small island of Peng Chau.
We arrived there about 45 minutes before the departure of a kaido or smaller boat that makes the short journey from Peng Chau to the Lantau pier that serves the monastery.
People do not often go to Peng Chau, the smallest of the main inhabited islands, so it was a good time to look around.

One of the less populated outlying islands Peng Chau is still very quiet and a nice place to take a walk.
This one is built in 1792 so that's very old by Hong Kong standards.
You can get there by ferry from Central District, or alternatively if you have been visiting Lantau or Cheung Chau they you can take the inter-island ferry from there to Peng Chau.
