Air-to-surface missile - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An air-to-surface missile (also, air-to-ground missile, ASM or AGM) is a missile designed to be launched from military aircraft (bombers, attack aircraft, fighter aircraft or other kinds) and strike ground targets on land, at sea, or both.
One of the major advantages of air-to-surface missiles over other weapons available for aircraft to use to attack ground targets is the standoff distance they provide.
Most air-to-surface missiles are fire-and-forget in order to take most advantage of the standoff distance - they allow the launching platform to turn away after launch.

Penguin is thought by some to derive from the Welsh words pen (head) and gwyn (white), applied to the Great Auk, which had a conspicuous white patch between the bill and the eye (although its head was fl), or from an island off Newfoundland known as "White Head".

US develops hopping 'Lunar Penguin' | The Register
Despite recent military assertions to the contrary, it seems that the US is running a covert fl op to militarise the Moon through deployment of a hopping, rocket-powered "Penguin" designed to cover vast lunar distances with a single bound.
It was originally developed to search for ice at the lunar south pole, and is now being pitched as a precision delivery vehicle for the science community or, as Raytheon puts it, a "robotic precursor" which can carry out a reccy of possible landing sites for manned missions.
