The Penistone Line is the name given to one of the rail services, operated by Northern Rail, in the West Yorkshire Metro/ South Yorkshire PTE area of northern England.
Penistone The station was opened with the line; in 1874 a joint LandYR/Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway (GCR from 1899) station was built to replace the original M.S.and L.R. Penistone station which served only the line to Manchester.
The Penistone Line continues to Sheffield, leaving the station by Jumble Lane crossing on what were the tracks of the former South Yorkshire Railway (later Great Central) but only for a short distance.

There is a fairly nice 'Pictorial Tour Of Penistone' so you can take a look at that to find out more about the town and see lots of pictures.
When I lived in Penistone I lived in the family home with my parents that you can see on the left along with my only sister Fiona, who hopefully will be a bit happier now that I've put a more recent picture of her on here.

Hello, I was evacuated to Penistone during the war.
Barnsley never bought it, it was transferred to Barnsley in 1974 when Penistone became a part of Barnsley MBC.If BMBC no longer need it I would have thought it should be transferred back to Penistone free of charge.
Penistone people are very interested in how Barnsley MBC wield their demonic powers.
