The median income for a household in the township was $55,000, and the median income for a family was $62,721.

The county lies in the lower cen­tral portion of the North Temperate zone between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and is intersected by 76 degrees west longitude.
Penn firmly believed that the Indians were the owners of the land and deeds of land purchases bearing the Penn name are on record.
Penn, with Indian chiefs and friends, walked for only one day and a half; arriving at Baker Creek, he marked a tree stating that it was the boundary of the land that he wanted.

 Historical Society of Berks County - Penn's Common
The 1770 Berks County Prison - erected at the northeast corner of Fifth and Washington streets, on the site of the Berkshire Hotel - was typical of the "countie gaols" of the colonial period.
Constructed of sandstone extracted from Penn's Mount, the new facility - often described as Gothic or Norman in styling - was dominated by a huge circular lookout, "the great tower," which rose to a height of 96 feet.
Consequently, a new county prison was constructed in Bern Township.

William Penn, who came on the scene in 1681, was interested in giving the Swedes' already cultivated lands along the Schuylkill to his Quaker friends, so he offered them free land far to the northwest as an enticement to move.
Perhaps with Penn's quote as advertisement and/or inspiration, Andrew Rudman accepted 10,500 acres from Penn and led a group of his countrymen north of the Manatawny Creek into the lower reaches of the Oley Valley in 1701.
After 1740, when Lancaster County was erected and encompassed lands west of the Schuylkill River, those residents in the townships of Cumru, Bethel, Brecknock, Heidelberg and Tulpehocken traveled south to the county seat in Lancaster for court matters and farmers markets.
