The Township is protected by 2 fire stations.
In Salem County, each township is solely responsible for supplying fire protection and emergency medical services to their own community. The only paid services in the county are the Pennsville Ambulance Department (Squad 5) and Underwood Hospital Paramedics (MICU) stationed at Salem Memorial Hospital.  All other fire and EMS services in the county are volunteer.

On April 25, 1924 an ordinance was adopted by the Township Committee to establish, maintain, regulate and control a fire department.
The Township Committee purchased a Stewart Hale fire truck, September 24, 1924 for the sum of $5,000.00.
As a result of a drowning in the township, the Lower Penns Neck Emergency Squad was founded in 1939.

 Two-Year Mentoring Program Proposed to Support New Teachers
As part of the effort to improve teacher quality and provide educators with the support and guidance they need to remain in the classroom, the State Board of Education is considering a plan to require two-year mentoring for all novice teachers beginning in September 2001.
The department emphasized that the new program will not change the evaluations performed during that provisional year, and teachers would still be eligible for standard certification at the end of their first year in the classroom.
The proposal unveiled today is the latest in several initiatives begun by the Department of Education to ensure that New Jersey continues to attract and retain quality teachers.

The township entered the 4th Annual Drinking Water Taste Test in 2006 with the New Jersey Water Association to find the best water in the state, and it was announced at Thursday night's committee meeting the winning water is right here.
Pennsville's water will now be entered into the National Rural Association's Great American Water Taste Test against the winning municipalities in the other 49 states.
Mayor John Crawford, a tap water drinker, was thrilled Pennsville was able to beat the other municipalities in the state.
