 Certification, Education Department -- Bucknell
Although members of the education department will advise students concerning course selection, the student is responsible for choosing those courses and experiences which meet program requirements.
Simply obtaining a Pennsylvania teaching certificate, by completing an approved program and meeting all other requirements, does not assure a student that she or he will be certified by another state.
All students interested in becoming certified who are not bachelor of science in education degree candidates should confer with the chair of the education department no later than the second semester of the sophomore year.

Brian B. et. al v. Commonweath of Pennsylvania, Department of Education
Pennsylvania has a law that gives youths between the ages of 6-21 the right to a public education until they complete high school or a similar equivalence.
Brian B. argued that he was not being allowed to get that education because he had been convicted of a crime and had been sentenced to a county institution instead of a federal institution.
He also highlights a good point that the PDE is bringing up about the security risks of stopping the education in the state level prisons but that does not even apply to this case cause the Plaintiffs are not asking them to discontinue education at the state level.

Pennsylvania State Department of Education, Dkt. No. 92-65-R
The fact that the PDE submitted a fax within the 30-day filing period, as received on May 6, 1992, was insufficient to toll the running of that period.
Due to the Pennsylvania State Department of Education's failure to timely file its AFR with the Office of Administrative Law Judges and establish jurisdiction for the review of this matter, it is, therefore, ordered that the matter be dismissed with prejudice.
While PDE's failure to submit a complete copy of the PDD was a defect, it is not fatal nor the central issue in the case.

Consolidated Applications of the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Dkt. No. 93-44-R
PDE maintains that the CJT amounts should not be included in such calculation, thereby arriving at a lower total for each year against which to measure the required State vocational education expenditure.
PDE maintains that consideration of those State objectives and intentions led the State to conclude that the CJT program is not true "vocational education," and argues that the State's interpretation should take precedence over the Federal definition in the Act and regulations.
PDE had no objection to ED Exhibit 10 so long as it is treated as merely a summary compilation of other documents in evidence, and that is clearly how it is being viewed.

It is our understanding that the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) obtained the records sought by CADDRE from schools and school districts pursuant to PDE's responsibility under the Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA) for ensuring that the Federal legal requirements of IDEA are met.
This is because FERPA defines "education records" as information directly related to a "student," which itself is defined as excluding a person who has not been in attendance at the educational agency or institution.
Accordingly, information disclosed to PDE and other officials listed in 34 CFR ยง 99.31(a)(3) may not be redisclosed in personally identifiable form, intentionally or otherwise, to anyone other than authorized representatives of PDE and must be destroyed when no longer needed for the audit or evaluation purpose for which it was collected.
