The kind of tongue in cheek statement that follows the accusation "you're drunk" with "I only had a couple," when we are clearly rat-arsed, is of no use to us in our quest to plunder the bookmakers.
Every single penny of the bankroll must now be accounted for every step of the way with no room for the "I'll do it later" attitude.
Quite simply, without this record keeping there is absolutely no possible way of getting an accurate picture of a betting campaign, and if it's left to memory we cannot hope to progress beyond the level of amateur punting.

Batcave - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Later comics, specifically the Cataclysm storyline, suggest that Batman has incorporated safeguards against earthquakes and even a potential nuclear catastrophe, outfitting the cave as a virtual bomb shelter or an enhanced panic room.
Three memorabilia items often seen in the cave are a defunct full-size mechanical Tyrannosaurus Rex, and an equally large U.S. penny and a Joker playing card.
rex comes from an adventure on "Dinosaur Island;" the penny is a trophy from Batman's encounter with a penny-obsessed villain named The Penny Plunderer (in World's Finest Comics #30, 1947).

But he is said to have been active in the scenes of war and plunder which succeeded the Revolution; and tradition affirms him to have been the leader in a predatory incursion into the parish of Kippen, in the Lennox, which took place in the year 1691.
Rob Roy was, therefore, sure of refuge in the country of the Campbells, both as having assumed their name, as connected by his mother with the family of Glenfalloch, and as an enemy to the rival house of Montrose.
His schemes of plunder were contrived and executed with equal boldness and sagacity, and were almost universally successful, from the skill with which they were laid, and the secrecy and rapidity with which they were executed.

Pretty Penny is a light-hearted look at human ambitions and moral dilemmas, with a rhythm that is both exhilarating and mesmerizing.
Frustrated with the inconsistency and poor quality of regular kines, Martin Gardiner of Planet X Studios in Melbourne has developed a high resolution digital conform process that is challenging the limitations of opticals and transitions within the film format.
Pretty Penny was shot on super 16 and then telecined using Planet X Studios’ technique: the image is split into quarters; each corner is captured at the same resolution normally used for the entire frame; the pieces are then reassembled to produce an image four times the resolution of a normal telecine.

In fact, the penny is an item left over from a villain that no one even remembers - the Penny Plunderer, who was featured in 1947, when it was probably pretty serious to steal pennies and the American dollar was worth something.
Of course, the Penny Plunderer didn’t even get his place in the history books, as more recently, the history of the giant penny has been re-written and is now credited to the more well-known Two-Face instead.
Not only does Batman collect these dark mementos, but it’s been pretty well established that Bats would collect blood and various leavings from crime scenes, such as The Joker’s smiling Jokerfish or Poison Ivy’s toxic vines, catalogued for future reference in making antidotes or tracking relationships between the criminal element.
