Sir Roger Penrose, OM, FRS (born 8 August 1931) is an English mathematical physicist and Emeritus Rouse Ball Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford.
Roger Penrose is the son of scientist Lionel S. Penrose and Margaret Leathes, and the brother of mathematician Oliver Penrose and chess grandmaster Jonathan Penrose.
Penrose and Stuart Hameroff have constructed a theory in which human consciousness is the result of quantum gravity effects in microtubules.

A Penrose tiling is pattern of tiles, discovered in 1973 by mathematical physicist Roger Penrose and around the same time by amateur mathematician Robert Ammann, which could completely cover an infinite plane, but only in a pattern which is non-repeating (aperiodic).
That it must be possible to tile the plane aperiodically was first proven as a general proposition in 1966 by Robert Berger, who shortly thereafter invented the first aperiodic set of tiles, consisting of 20426 distinct tile shapes.
Penrose and Pentaplex filed a lawsuit against Kimberly-Clark for breach of copyright.
