PENSIEVE is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.
I noticed Desert Flutie, a first-time visitor to PENSIEVE, had this blog quiz up on her page when I popped in to thank her for her kind words.
This morning I opened email and in the midst of reading Pensieve comments (thanks to those of you who kept my blog from getting lonely!), discovered I had not only been nominated for an award, but I was also a finalist!

As for Professor Snape and the business of the Pensieve; Snape does not appear to have been under suspicion by either of his "principals" during Book 5, but he had to be well aware that he was walking the razor's edge.
Trelawney's uproar over being sacked, called Snape out of the room, leaving Harry alone with the Pensieve, exactly at the point that it had been bourne in on Snape that his escape clause needed to be executed.
For that matter, if this is the case, we can't be altogether sure that the memories the Pensieve was stocked with that evening were even the same ones that Snape usually made such a show of extracting.

What is seen in the Pensieve scenes (and thus conveyed in the text) is the point of view of the person being inside it, and that person is able to notice things that the memory-person didn't when the scene happened.
This is the formal introduction of the Pensieve, where we learn what it is and how it works (at least partly), which should clarify the previous scenes when Harry's inside it.
Pursuing my theory that one of the Pensieve's functions is to hide information from the reader (or at least confuse him/her), I'd say that there is a slight difference between how Dumbledore interprets the prophecy and how JKR meant for it to be interpreted (i.e., the true meaning of it).

This is how I think the Pensieve is biased: No matter what it records or does not record emotionally, it takes those moments which stick out in the mind of the person recording.
If Remus were to have a Pensieve and put all his thoughts about James into it, the incident might be there, but it would be as a point of distaste, probably shoved off into a corner most of the time.
But Snape could have put that memory in a pensieve at any time, and overheard their conversation! It would be like 1984...

Yet when he gets Harry out of the Pensieve, he is not made to yell in capital letters.

Of course there are multiple reasons for that (the past week of TypePad posts explain....:/), but for those of you who check in on Pensieve, it's PAST time to update your Bloglines or bookmarks or whatever reader you use with my new TypePad website, Pensieve.
There are squillions of warm and fuzzy, festive and funny, light and nostalgic, spiritual and thought-provoking blog posts waiting to be read.
This is one of those times I long for a real pensieve, so I could empty my mind...and heart...of heavy thoughts; not to forget them, just to store them away for a time when there weren't so many of them.
