The station is located under The Pentagon, and formerly had a direct (but secure) entrance to the Pentagon and its underground shopping center.
Access to the Pentagon is now gained via a new secured entrance facility above ground near the bus depot and the entrances to the subway station.

Pentagon City is a Washington Metro station in the Pentagon City neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia on the Blue and Yellow Lines.
It links to a tunnel that allows direct access west into the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, a large shopping mall, and east under Hayes Street to an entrance outside Pentagon Centre, a shopping complex that includes Best Buy, Borders Books, and Costco Wholesale.
Additionally, an abandoned pedestrian tunnel exists beyond a set of glass doors off of the station mezzanine, which leads to the northeast side of the intersection of 12th and Hayes Streets.
