Pentax is squeezing a few more megapixels out of their Optio A and M series with the new 10 megapixel A20 and 7 megapixel M20, bumped from 8 and 6 megapixels respectively.
Pentax just announced their K100D and K110D Digital SLRs today which hopefully kick that ridiculous, google-hating *ist naming convention to the curb once and for all.

Pentax has apparently tapped Kodak to provide its 31.6 megapixel KAF-31600 medium format CCD for the upcoming 645 Digital, which would seem to be the company's highest resolution digital camera to date.
Pentax has plenty of other interesting (and old) concepts they're showing off at Pk, so be sure to peep the read link to catch the rest.
As for the Pentax K10D (middle), the DCI folks have pretty much nothing but praise, and are thinking it could work out as a budget alternative to the Nikon D200, and might be a fit for the pro set if the image quality is good enough.

True to Pentax claims, we found some surprises on the image quality front and in the camera's performance, which don't have anything to do with the SR system.
In the past, Pentax *ist cameras like the DS2 scored some of the lowest (though still respectable) resolution numbers in the 6MP DSLR class while turning in the lowest (that means best) noise levels at ISOs from 200 to 3200.
Apparently, Pentax's new processing engine backs away from the blurring filter that was used to minimize noise at the expense of resolution on the older *ist DSLRs.

In 1952 the Asahi Optical Company of Japan created the Pentax (PENTAprism refleX) line of cameras and were the first to incorporate a penta-prism viewfinder and reflex mirror system into a camera they called the Asahiflex I. This camera featured a cloth curtain focal plane shutter, shutter speeds of 1/20-1/500 sec, and a bulb setting.
The Pentax K100D is a 6.1-megapixel digital SLR that includes a Shake Reduction (SR) system that offers a two-stop advantage for sharp, blur-free images even under difficult shooting conditions, such as when using a telephoto lens or shooting in low light without a flash.
Lens was a Pentax smc P-FA 50mm f/2.8 Macro with an exposure of 1/160 sec at f/18 in Shutter Priority mode (it was windy).

Pentax has joined the 10MP entry-level DSLR war with today's announcement of its K10D, the first in its class with a weather-resistant body.
All Pentax lenses made since 1964 will work with the K10D (PENTAX K-, KA-, KAF- and KAF2-mount lenses; screw-mount lenses with an adapter; and 645- and 67-system lenses with an adapter) and will effectively be turned into anti-shake lenses, since the anti-shake technology is built into the camera.
Pentax says it's developed Pentax Real IMage Engine (PRIME) to produce "well-balanced, true-to-life images." A 22-bit A/D converter is included to quickly transfer images while maintaining accurate color tones and richer gradation from the CCD to the imaging engine.

 NEWS! - Pentax plans to focus on digital
The two items would appear to be intended for dealers, rather than the general public, but since they're easily accessible on a public website to anybody who has a knowledge of the Russian language, the news would appear to be somewhat of an official public announcement, even if not originally intended in such a manner.
With this announcement, Pentax becomes the first company from the so-called "Big Five" photographic brands, which will completely focus on digital cameras of various types (including professional SLR and consumer digital cameras), and also production of hybrid photo/video cameras.
The news really isn't that surprising, but it is definitely significant for Pentax users and retailers that the company intends to be first to make the leap to an entirely digital product lineup (with the exception of medium-format cameras, anyway).
