The Pentecostal Assemblies of The World, Inc. (PAW) is the oldest Oneness Pentecostal organization in existence, and was founded in 1906, formally organized in 1912 as adherents of trinitarian beliefs, and in 1916 re-organized as a Oneness Pentecostal organization.
On January 25, 1919, the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World headquarters moved from Portland to Indianapolis, and formally incorporated in the state of Indiana.
In 1932, the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World was reorganized and elected Elder Samuel Grimes of New York, as the new Presiding Bishop.

A core belief of the Assembly of God Churches is that the charismatic experience of Pentecost and the early Christian Church is essential and continues today.
From its beginning the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World was fully integrated racially, though predominantly white in membership.

 The United Pentecostal Church
The council met in 1915 and issued a rather mild statement on the issue, but in the Fourth General Council of the Assemblies of God, meeting in St. Louis in October 1916, the lines were drawn and the 'Jesus only' people were forced out of the fellowship.
In 1914 it was decided to separate along racial lines, and the white contingent took the name 'Pentecostal Ministerial Alliance.' In 1932 the name 'The Pentecostal Church, Incorporated' was taken by the group.
Unite!' This is how the organization came to be called the 'United Pentecostal Church.' W. Witherspoon sat down at the typewriter and wrote out a statement of the 'Fundamental Doctrine' of the organization, which still appears, exactly as he wrote it, in the 'Articles of Faith' in the UPC Manual.

 Road to the Merger
When The Assemblies of God adopted the doctrine of the trinity at its Fourth General Council in October 1916, the Oneness Pentecostals were forced to withdraw from the organization.
The Pentecostal Ministerial Alliance ministers voted to merge with The Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, but the terms of the proposed merger was not accepted by the ministers in The Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.
However, a merger between The Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ and The Pentecostal Assemblies of the World was consummated in November 1931.
