Penteli - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In antiquity, Penteli was famous for its marble which was used for the construction of the Acropolis and other buildings of ancient Athens.
Penteli marble is flawless white with a uniform, faint yellow tint, which makes it shine with a golden hue under sunlight.
It reached east of Penteli about 5:30 PM local time and then the Pentelis and Vrilissia, consuming a couple of houses on Friday night (about 9:00 PM EET, 7:00 PM UTC), the northern range on Saturday morning, then Rhea on Saturday afternoon, Anoixi on Monday, and Dionysus communities on Saturday.

Athens was the leading city in Greece during the greatest period of Greek civilisation during the 1st millennium BC.
During the "Golden Age" of Greece (roughly 500 BC to 300 BC) it was the Western world's leading cultural and intellectual centre, and indeed it is in the ideas and practices of Ancient Athens that what we now call "Western civilisation" has its origins.
Athens sprawls across the central plain of Attica, which is bound by mount Aegaleo on the west, mount Parnitha on the north, mount Penteli to the northeast, mount Hymettus on the east, and the Saronic Gulf on the south-west.

Three other fires, at short distances from Penteli mountain, that erupted in the sixteen hours preceding the Penteli fire, were controlled successfully in spite of the adverse conditions.
The fire on Penteli mountain started next to a road with quite heavy traffic and was reported immediately, through mobile phone, by drivers who stopped and tried unsuccessfully to extinguish it.
The ecological destruction was heavy, given the significance of the mountain of Penteli for the environment of Athens.

The Central Plain around Athens is bounded on the north by Mt Parnes, on the north-east by Mt Penteli, on the south-east by Mt Hymettos, and on the west by Mt Aigaleos.
The territory is, however, rich in limestone and in the marble of Mts Penteli and Hymettos; in addition, there was formerly (until it was worked out) a copious source of silver and lead in the hills of Lavrion.
The oldest rocks in the region occur in one of the higher nappes along the north-west borders of Attica, in the mountains of Aigaleos and Parnes.

Community acquired MRSA infections in a paediatric population in Greece
All S. aureus strains isolated from community acquired skin and soft tissue infections in Penteli Children’s Hospital, a paediatric hospital in the north of Athens with a catchment population of one million inhabitants, from June to November 2004 were retrospectively analysed.
Moreover, PFGE pattern C is similar to the PFGE pattern of the PVL+ clone C, established and causing hospital acquired MRSA infections in one hospital in Patras, a city in southwest Greece [12].
Although Greece has one of the highest rates of MRSA infections in Europe [13], this PFGE type is not among the types circulating in the Greek hospitals [12], indicating that community acquired MRSA infections are possibly not the result of the spread of hospital MRSA strains in the community.
