BBC NEWS Have Your Say Tiananmen protests: Your memories
After the square was cleared of students and protesters, hundreds of unarmed people were gunned down on nearby streets by China's People's Liberation Army and People's Armed Police.
I was 9 years old when the Tiananmen massacre happened and I still can't forget the time when I was standing in front of the TV and saw the troops shooting at their own people.
All people who loud much in support of Tiananmen protest should think whether it is possible to protest like this in their country.

Homeless people are not allowed to sleep in the parks, not allowed to sleep on the streets, in parked cars or abandoned buildings and they soon won’t be allowed to sleep in the square.
TDRC argues that “The proposal to amend the Nathan Phillips bylaw to ban “camping” is simply an attempt to use municipal legislation to drive homeless people to a less visible location.
Driving homeless people away from the relatively safe location of Nathan Phillips will also frustrate the homeless outreach strategy that underpins the “From the Street into Homes” report by making homeless people less accessible to outreach workers.” Tough love with no housing options and no support is not a policy for the homeless.

RW ONLINE:Chicago: The Streets Where Black Kids Ain't Allowed: The Racist Beating of Lenard Clark
On the evening of March 27, 400 people marched into Bridgeport leaving behind, on a tree in Armour Square Park, a cross with the words "Bury racism."
It was the same sign posted in the 1919 Chicago race riots, begun when a Black youth was stoned and drowned for swimming in a "white area." It was the sign raised by white mobs when Black people attempted to move from the southside ghetto into Cicero in the 1960s.
And it is especially necessary for white people in Chicago to take a public stand against white supremacy and show that they are serious about ending the oppression of Black people.

Yet as I track the giving way to progress in old Times Square, I, can't help but remember it in the seventies and eighties as a bustling center of cheap movie houses and video arcades, where mostly nonwhite, low-income people took their dates, seemingly oblivious to the porno palaces next door.
Times Square is being transformed from a place of illicit pleasure transactions into a prefabricated theme park for the family.
Times Square is still a tense node of the uneasy American scene.

Lincoln Square, Chicago - Neighborhood History
Before it was ever called Lincoln Square, people were drawn to the area surrounding Lincoln, Lawrence and Western Avenues because they wanted to live somewhere a little greener and a little removed from the densely populated parts of Chicago.
Today, Lincoln Square is a blend of cultures, each of which brings the area a rich layer to experience.
People moved in waves to the area, which was known as a safe and clean neighborhood where they could breathe "hygienic air" and raise their families away from the industrial pollution and threat of disease common in Chicago's heavily populated neighborhoods.

10/27 at Pershing Square : LA IMC
Pershing or “Victory” Square is an open space in the middle of downtown L.A., actually the only park-like space in the area, surrounded by some of the cooler funkier older buildings from a time when builders took pride in their creations.
Back at Pershing Square, several rock bands end the day’s event, along with a performance by the “Free Radicals” affinity group who staged a “death act.” Sprawled on the ground covered in blood and torn clothing, they represent the dead and wounded in Afghanistan; a sight blacked out of mainstream media.
A few of the responses I get are negative, but the overwhelming response of the working people in the streets of Downtown L.A, the people who understand, because they are poor, who really will be hurt and affected by this war, is support for the day’s actions.

Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tiananmen Square is tightly patroled on the anniversary of June 4 to prevent any commemoration.
The Tiananmen square protests dampened the growing concept of political liberalization that was popular in the late 1980s; as a result, many democratic reforms that took place during the 1980s were rolled back.
Generally, the demonstration at Tiananmen Square was well-ordered, with daily marches of students from various Beijing area colleges displaying their solidarity with the boycott of college classes and with the developing demands of the protest.
