The American people right now are not in a mood to trust any political plan, proposal or policy that seems complicated--highly involved, technical, full of phased-in elements and glide paths and Part C's.
People sense Washington is using public concern as a plaything to get what will serve the political class.
Second, people know that while much of life is complicated, some of it is simple, such as what you can see with your eyes.

And sure enough, wherever we went, we met godly people and evil, warm-hearted and cold, hospitable folks and those who wouldn’t give you the time of day if clocks were free.
One might not expect to find “villains” or “thieves” among the Lord’s people, but one will find in almost every group of disciples the fervent and the lukewarm, the enthusiastic and the blasé, the eager and the aloof.
As the wise old man at the city gate observed, what you find in people where you are is not likely to be different from what you found in those you’ve left behind.

"The Simpsons" has earned Fox's parent company, Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., well over a billion dollars, and its role in the network's growth has been incalculable.
The show is watched by more than 60 million people weekly in more than 60 countries around the world -- beating out even the lowest-common-denominator friendly "Baywatch" as the world's most-watched show.
"Simpsons" executive producer Mike Scully, who took over as show runner, or head writer, in 1996, has said that in order to write for "The Simpsons," a writer must have "a healthy disrespect for everything Americans hold dear." And judging from the success of "The Simpsons," what Americans hold most dear is disrespect itself.

Conflict Diamonds: Amnesty International's Human Rights Concerns
In many African countries, including Angola, Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) diamonds have been, and continue to be linked to terrible human rights abuses either by insurgent groups to fuel conflict and carry out atrocities against innocent civilians or by unscrupulous government who are equally brutal.
While the Kimberley Process marks a positive step towards protecting the legitimate diamond industry and consumers from purchasing tainted stones, much reform is needed.
The trade illustrates with the hard clarity of the gem itself that no matter where human rights violations occur, the world ignores them at its peril.
