The Peoria County Probate Case Files Index was compiled by David E. Richards and Sharon Soltys, interns for the Illinois Regional Archives Depository (IRAD) System at Western Illinois University in Macomb.
Probate case files from Peoria County dating from 1825 to 1887 were transferred to the Illinois Regional Depository at Western Illinois University in Macomb.
Peoria County Probate Cases Files that are not in IRAD are still in the circuit clerk's office.

Peoria County is rich with history and heritage.
The tribal name of "Peoria" is the French version of the word Peouarea, meaning "he comes carrying a pack on his back", according to the Oklahoma Historical Society.
Peoria was incorporated as a town on July 18, 1835, and was incorporated as a city on April 21, 1845, when an election was held at the courthouse.

The Peoria Humane Society is dedicated to the prevention of cruelty and neglect to animals.

Henry Jones, the father of the subject of this sketch, was of Welch parentage, and was born in Culpepper county, Virginia, where he grew to manhood, and married Sarah Zinn, who was of German and English extraction.
In November, 1831 they came to Illinois and settled at Peoria, spending the first Winter in a small log cabin that stood at the foot of the Main street bluff.
Was born in Butler county O. January 1829 and in 1839 moved to Washington county Mo. In those days the schools were supported by subscription, and there being ten children in the family, his opportunities for education were limited.
