This means that one quarter of all known Malagasy Peperomias has been described as a result of the expedition.
The African Peperomia bangroana was described by C. De Candolle in 1866.

Peperomia is a huge family of plants but the Dutch flower auctions only differentiate between two categories: Peperomia caperata and Peperomia 'other'.

Peperomia cereoides is unique in the genus for its aspect with almost inconspicuous leaves with predominant stems resembling a branched cereoid cactus.

A previous study of Hawaiian Peperomia hypothesized that the present distribution of species is the result of three or four independent colonization events to the archipelago.
Cladistic analyses of the molecular data indicate that: (1) the Hawaiian Peperomia are of pacific ancestry and originally colonized the older northwestern islands, and (2) the Hawaiian species form a monophyletic group.

Good drainage and shade are the essentials to a nice planting of green Peperomia, otherwise it tolerates low moisture conditions and is not a particular favorite of pests.

There are about a dozen types of peperomias usually available and they can be easily split into two groups: variegated and non-variegated varieties.
The cuttings of most varieties of peperomia can be placed three to a 87mm (3½ in.) pot or spaced 25 mm (1 in.) apart in a large seedtray.
As peperomias do not make a lot of root growth those plants already in separate 87mm (3½ in.) pots should stay there until showing clear signs of outgrowing the pot.
