Per Borten, a former Norwegian prime minister and longtime leader of the agrarian Center Party, died Jan. 20 in a hospital in Trondheim, in western Norway.
Borten may be best remembered for the non-socialist coalition government he formed in October 1965, ending 20 years of dominance by the social democratic Labor Party and its prime minister, Einar Gerhardsen.
Borten graduated from the Norwegian Agricultural College in 1939 and worked as a farmer and farm inspector until 1946.
