Percote - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Percote was a town or city on the southern (Asian) side of the Hellespont, to the northeast of Troy.
Percote is mentioned a few times in Greek mythology, where it plays a very minor role each time.
Percote was no longer in existence during the time of Strabo, and in his Geography he mentions that the exact location of Percote on the Hellespont shore is unknown.

 Homer - The Iliad - Page 22
When he reached manhood, Cisses would have kept him there, and was for giving him his daughter in marriage, but as soon as he had married he set out to fight the Achaeans with twelve ships that followed him: these he had left at Percote and had come on by land to Ilius.
Thus did they turn upon the Trojans and slay them, and the Achaeans were thankful to have breathing time in their flight from Hector.
They then took two princes with their chariot, the two sons of Merops of Percote, who excelled all others in the arts of divination.

 Trojan Kings
Among the 17 regiments of Trojan allies, two came from Finistère, the westernmost tip of France and the others from various regions of England, Scotland and Wales.
The allies from Finistère sailed up the Severn and Avon as far as Pershore, which corresponds to Homer's Percote, from where, according to the poet, they travelled overland to Troy.
It is therefore not surprising that over time the peoples living around the Aegean Sea believed that the Trojan War had taken place in their part of the world.
