In the 1920s, the Pere Marquette came under the control of Cleveland financiers Oris and Mantis Van Sweringen who also controlled the Nickel Plate, Erie and Chesapeake and Ohio (CandO) railroads and planned to merge the four railroads.
The ICC did not approve the merger and the Van Sweringen brothers sold their interest in the Pere Marquette to the CandO, with which it formally merged on June 6, 1947.
The Pere Marquette also operated a number of rail car ferries on the Detroit and St. Claire Rivers and on Lake Erie and Lake Michigan.

Pere Marquette 1225 is entering the station area in Clare under power for the run-by.

The Fort Street Union Depot Co. was part of the Union Belt Railroad of Detroit, formed by the Pere Marquette, Wabash, and Pennsylvania railroads.

Pere Marquette-Chesapeake and Ohio was the largest operator of railroad carferries on Lake Michigan.
Newly merged in 1900, Pere Marquette’s three predecessor railroads, Chicago and West Michigan, Detroit, Grand Rapids and Western, and Flint and Pere Marquette, placed a joint order for four new ferries from American Ship Building of Cleveland, Ohio, in 1901, in order to strengthen its position among the three cross-lake carriers.

 Pigeon, MI Depot
The depot in Pigeon is an L-shaped building, built at the crossing of the Pere Marquette, running east-west, and the Pontiac, Oxford and Northern, which ran north to Caseville, on Saginaw Bay.
In 1889 the railroad was reorganized as the Pontiac, Oxford and Northern.
The building must have put up by the Pere Marquette as the style is very similar to some other PM depots of the era.

Although I never actually saw a Pere Marquette train in action, it had a major influence on the landscape in Charlevoix.
In 1947, the Pere Marquette was merged into their parent company, the Cheasapeake and Ohio Railroad.
On my model railroad it is August 3rd, 1956 and the PM still exists as a separate railway.

This new 2-8-4 locomotive was sent to the Boston and Albany Railroad by Lima in the early spring of 1925 for test on that railroad.

Don Saunders, Amtrak Central Division General Superintendent, joined city, state and federal officials to cut the ribbon to reopen the renovated and expanded station that was first opened by the Pere Marquette Railroad almost 79 years ago.
CSX Transportation is the successor to the Pere Marquette Railroad and has leased the station's platform to Amtrak for improvement by the City of Bangor.
The new brick structure was completed in June of 1926, for a cost to the Pere Marquette Railroad of $30,000.
