 Save Balki Petition
On September 21, 2003, the classic Miller/Boyett sitcom "Perfect Strangers" was removed from the schedule of the cable television station Nick at Nite.
We understand that Nick at Nite is a self-proclaimed home to many classic sitcoms, but the current scheduling of the network is hypocritical, ludicrous, and downright irresponsible.
This petition to renew "Perfect Strangers" on Nick at Nite will be sent to both Nick at Nite's corporate offices and to Viacom, its parent company.

 Perfect Strangers
Perfect Strangers is a sitcom television series which ran for eight seasons from 1986 through 1993 on ABC.
It is about Larry Appleton (Mark Linn-Baker), a high-strung Chicago resident, sharing his apartment with his distant cousin Balki Bartokomous (Bronson Pinchot), a shepherd from the (fictional) island nation of Mypos.
Perfect Strangers spawned the spinoff series Family Matters, also set in Chicago, which ran from 1989 to 1998.

UnNews:Death of Pinchot sparks riots, arrests - Uncyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Hundreds of supporters of Pinchot, many in tears, filed past his brown wooden coffin on Monday in a military ceremony for the former dictator, who was denied a state funeral normally granted to former presidents.
Pinchot was probably most famous for his role of the bucolic foreigner, "Balki Bartakamous," on the hit 1980s sitcom "Perfect Strangers." After the show was cancelled, Pinchot became dictator of Chile, where his night-roving death squads kidnapped and "disappeared" thousands of his political opponents.
While Pinchot's relatives mourned his death on Sunday from heart failure at 56, his many opponents celebrated with champagne and lamented that the general escaped justice for the torture and killings that marked his 17 years in power after a bloody 1989 coup.

Perfect Strangers: Life lessons we all cherish to this day - Stranded
Perfect Strangers features Balki (the idealistic Sheppard from the fictitious Mediterranean Isle of Mypos) coming to Chicago to live with his neurotic and completely stressed out cousin, Larry Appleton, played by Mark Linn-Baker.
Perfect Strangers shows how two men from completely different cultures can come together and create slapstick comedy that delighted families everywhere from 1986-1993.
No matter where these two actors are or what they have become, they have something pretty huge on their side: Perfect Strangers.

Lycos Movies - Biography - Bronson Pinchot
Although Pinchot was committed to a supporting part in the short-lived NBC series "Sara" (1985), upon that show's demise he was given "Balki" in "Perfect Strangers", a show created especially to highlight his accent and eccentric style.
As with Serge, no one could quite pin down the origin of the accent, but audiences kept "Perfect Strangers" on the air for seven seasons.
Unlike the highly-charged characters Pinchot has been known to play, on TV talk shows he has proven to be erudite and often has recounted stories of his hormonally-charged teenage years.

In a story that suggests that American-style capitalism may end up damaging Russia as much as communism, the Russian version of the wacky '80s sitcom Perfect Strangers is a big hit in the comedy-starved nation.
Originally airing on ABC from 1986 to 1993, Perfect Strangers was about a pair of cousins--nervous Larry (Mark Linn-Baker) and funny foreigner Balki (Bronson Pinchot)--living together in Chicago.
The Russian version, which is called Brat'ya po-raznomu (a much funnier title than Perfect Strangers, actually) is about "two guys, one with a Moscow psychology, the other with a provincial outlook," actor Anton Eldarov told The Hollywood Reporter.

Bio for Bronson Pinchot on MSN Movies
The common misconception is that Pinchot sprang fully grown as a comedian with his performance as an effete, bizarrely accented art gallery assistant in Beverly Hills Cop (1984).
Actually he'd been in films since 1982, but his Cop appearance was his breakthrough role, and was instrumental in his receiving the starring assignment of Balki Bartokomous ("Doan be reedeeculus!"), ingenuous immigrant from the mythical country of Mypos, in the popular TV sitcom Perfect Strangers (1986).
Since the cancellation of Perfect Strangers, Bronson Pinchot has appeared in important feature-film roles, generally amusing in nature; he was far less funny as the megalomaniac villain of the 1995 Stephen King TV miniseries The Langoliers.

BBC - Comedy Guide - Perfect Strangers
In the mid-1980s there was a mini-trend in American TV and movies in which US society and customs were made funny by viewing them through the eyes of a foreigner.
Taxi had its constantly baffled East European immigrant Latka; an Aussie, Paul Hogan, tried to come to terms with New York in Crocodile Dundee; and in Coming To America Eddie Murphy was a visitor from Africa.
The TV sitcom Perfect Strangers explored the same theme, wherein a man named Balki Bartokomous travels to America from his Mediterranean Island (Mypos) in search his distant cousin, Larry, in Chicago.

From the moment the Bondies were herded onstage by an imposing muscleman (presumably the security guard the band employed after the Jack White tussle), the group epitomized the picture of garage-rock stardom.
Affecting detached poses, clad in just the right clothing (thrift-shop T-shirts laundered to perfection and accessories stolen from the mannequins at Urban Outfitters) and peeking out from behind asymmetrical haircuts, this über-cool quartet turned every hipster in the house green with envy.
Musically, the Bondies haven’t stumbled onto anything new (their two-minute distorted-guitar romps are fierce but formulaic), but they have tweaked the arrangements just enough to revise what the Stooges already perfected.
