The Ph.D. in Theatre and Performance Studies was designed in accord with the University's imperatives for excellence and educational innovation, particularly with relationship to the new community performance initiatives of the Clarice Smith Center for the Performing Arts.
Area studies in theatre and performance studies focus on a broad spectrum of international and American performance traditions as seen through a flexible framework of interdisciplinary methodologies.
Although points of intersection are inevitable between traditional study of theatre and drama and the evolving field of performance studies, the latter is distinguished by its broadly conceived definitions of performance.

PSi is a professional association founded in 1997 to promote communication and exchange between scholars and practitioners working in the field of performance.
The organisation has staged numerous international conference and festival gatherings that have moved between the discourse and practice of performance.
