  ENGLISH
Thought to come by sea from an island in the Pacific, the Pericu were primitive to the degree their only dwellings were twig and bark barely one-person-sized sleeping domes.
The Pericu lived on the fruit of the pitahaya cactus and fish in the sea.
During the great Pericu Uprising at the Cape in the 1730s, Jesuit Fathers Carranco and Tamaral, both mission founders (the latter the founder of the town of San Jose del Cabo...

 53. Relatives in South America
The Pericu and Guaycuras of the pre-Spanish period until the late 16th century were strict hunter-gatherers and lived at the southernmost tip of the remote Californian peninsula.
The thirty-three Pericu skulls kept by the Regional Museum of La Paz in Baja California Sur in Mexico and the National Museum of Anthropology and History in Mexico City and recently measured and analysed, belong to a population that had, until now, been thought to have been an aberrant Amerind group.
Pericu is included in the Guaycuran language family which is different from the Yuman spoken in the centre and north of the peninsula.

 Pericues - Crystalinks
DNA analysis of skulls found in Baja California that belonged to an extinct tribe called the Pericues reveal that the Pericues likely were not related to Native Americans and that they probably predated Native Americans in settling the Americas.
Instead, Gonzalez said the Pericues are closer to the ancient populations of southern Asia, Australia, and the South Pacific Rim.
She explained that the Pericues were a hunter-gatherer society that lived on shellfish, fish, cacti and other plants in the desert area of Baja California.

 Welcome to Los Cabos...
The growing unrest among the Guaycura and Pericu Indians south of Loreto also threatened to engulf mission communities to the north.
As a result, the Spanish were forced to send armed troops to the Cape region to quell the Indian uprisings in 1723, 1725 and 1729.
After Tamaral punished a Pericu Shaman for violating the anti-polygamy decree, the Indians rebelled and burned both the San Jose and Santiago missions in October of 1734.

2005-10-29 - IPR MARKETING - Pericu viaggia ancora col 53%

Cabo San Lucas | Historical Background| City Guide | WCities Destination Guide
Before Cabo San Lucas was known as the tourist town it is today, the beaches were inhabited by a nomadic Guaycura Amerindian group called Pericu.
The Pericu were hunters and gatherers; the shores around Cabo made it easy to live off of shellfish, small game and wild plants.
The Cabo coastline remained untouched by European explorers until 1542, when Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, a Spaniard, made the first contact with the Pericu people while exploring the waters of the Pacific for the Spanish monarchy.

 Italy lifts 'toxic beaches' ban
Authorities on Thursday lifted a ban on swimming along a 15 kilometre (nine mile) stretch of Ligurian coastline saying a toxic algae bloom which forced 200 people to be hospitalized no longer posed a threat to bathers.
Genoa's mayor Giuseppe Pericu told reporters scientists "have ascertained that all the parameters for swimming are normal" but monitoring would continue.
Nearly 200 bathers were treated in hospitals for fever, nausea and irritation to eyes and nose over a period of a few days from last Sunday having come into contact with the algae, "Ostreopsis ovata," while swimming or lying on local beaches.

Discussion -- most archaeological sites in Mesoamerica contain evidence that they were built by navigational peoples.
Very recently, examination of 8,000 to 11,000-year-old skulls from Brazil, Kennewick, Washington and of Pericu peoples of the isolated southern tip of Baja Callifornia have revealed that these thin-faced peoples were unrelated to the modern Native American and eastern Asian groups.
