  Chemistry: WebElements Periodic Table
The periodic "law" of chemistry recognises that many properties of the chemical elements are periodic functions of their atomic number (the number of protons within the element's atomic nucleus).
The periodic table is an arrangement of the chemical elements ordered by atomic number in columns (groups) and rows (periods) presented so as to emphasize their periodic properties.
The element polonium is very much in the news at present, perhaps for the first time ever, and for the wrong reasons.

EIA Kids Page - A Periodic Table of the Elements
The periodic table is the most important reference a chemist has because it puts all the known elements into a meaningful pattern.
The period number of an element signifies the highest energy level an electron in that element occupies (in the unexcited state).
The number of elements in a period increases as one moves down the periodic table because as the energy level of the atom increases, the number of energy sub-levels per energy level increases.

 Redox Reactions
So far we have considered that all elements in positive oxidation states begin their existance in water as hydrated cations and then undergo reactions between the cations and the water to "neutralize" their positive charge.
In a given family, the group oxidation number is least stable at the top of the family (second Period) and at the bottom of the family (sixth Period).
The trends across a Period are the same as in the p-Block Elements while the trends dow a family are different.

The BUDGET_PERIODS Table - Data Element Index
Budget period begin dates are calculated based on the end date of the previous budget period, the account start date (if there is no previous budget period), or the end date of the same budget period (if the contract start date is problematic--for example, if it is null).
As a project enters periods beyond the fifth, the second is appended to the first, the third assumes the place of the second, the fourth that of the third, the fifth that of the fourth and the current (new) period becomes the fifth.
Budget period end dates for non-government sponsored research may also be changed to facilitate reporting and the management of funds given the mutual agreement of Research Services and the school or center responsible for the fund.

Trends Across Period 2 of the Periodic Table
As one moves from one element to another on the right, one more proton is found in the nucleus, and one more electron is found in the same electron 'shell' (energy level).
For this reason, all the elements in Period 2 have the first electron 'shell' (energy level) filled with 2 electrons (the electronic configuration of Helium).
As we move from left to right across the period one more proton is added to the nucleus of each successive atom, and one more electron is added to the same electron 'shell' (energy level) of each successive atom.

Eventually it was recognized that the addition of impurities from the third column of the periodic table, such as aluminum, galium and indium, produces a "p-type" semiconductor in which conduction is via positive charge carriers.
While the addition of impurities from the fifth column of the periodic table, such as phosphorous, arsenic and antimony, produces "n-type" semiconductors in which the electrical carriers are negative as in ordinary metals.

Picasso's Blue Period 1901-04 | Art Knowledge News
The blue period is a marvelous expression of poetic subtlety and personal melancholy and contributes to the transition of Picasso's style from classicism to abstract art.
Inspired by a tradition that had grown suspicious of classicism, the blue period marks the end of a development in which the young Pablo Picasso is trying to formulate his pictorial means that solve the problems and limitations of classicism and would eventually culminate in cubism and the first steps towards modern abstract art.
In fact, it lasted until the end of his cubist period (which followed the rose period) and only in the period thereafter, which was his neo-classicist period, did Picasso's work begin the show the playfulness that would remain a prominent feature of his work for the rest of his life.

 Universal Periodic Table
The first period has 1 electron energy level, the second period has 2 electron energy levels, etc. There is a pattern in the groups as well.
All of the elements in group 2 have 2 electrons in their outer energy level; the elements in group 13 have 3 electrons in their outer energy level; the elements in group 14 have 4 electrons in their outer energy level, etc. You might have noticed that groups 3-12 were not included in the trend.
That is because they are the transition elements, and the transition elements follow a slightly different trend due to the overlap of energy levels and the way those energy levels fill.

 DCMI Period Encoding Scheme
This document defines DCMI Period, an encoding scheme which uses a simple model to specify the limits of a time interval, and describes a method for encoding DCMI Period as a text string using the DCSV syntax [DCSV].
DCMI Period has been designed to be similar to DCMI Box [BOX] used for identifying a place, and thus allows consistent encoding of spatio-temporal information in the DCMES element Coverage, as well as consistency between Coverage and Date.
The components of a DCMI Period identifier have no meaning when disaggregated, since in any particular instance it is the complete set which indicates the specific time interval.
