A person's peripheral vision loss may be slowed, arrested or even reversed with timely and effective medical treatment.
The person has visual acuity correctible to 20/40 or better and sees clearly using his or her "central vision." I propose a novel concept of augmented vision, which is based on a new method of enhancement and the use of open peripheral-view, see-through display devices.
Peripheral field loss (tunnel vision) is a severe constriction of the peripheral field leaving only the central 5-10 deg.

I just wanted to comment on the peripheral vision aspect of your post--- My son's big stimming is looking out of his peripheral vision (especially at linear things (ledges, fences--- but pretty much everything is a possibility).
Looking out of the peripheral vision is a common stim but I am sure some "normal" kids may do it too.
He still looks out of the peripheral vision several times a day(especially if tired or stressed) but most often he would rather play with his sister or interact with us.
