PERNEM, JAN 13 — Rave parties have continued to vibrate Pernem’s fragile coastline with alarming frequency and those opposed to these nocturnal events are not restricted to locals alone.
Foreigners who reside along the many rooms dotting the coastal belt have complained that little is being done either by the government or the police to stop these parties.
When contacted, Pernem police said they were unaware of any party at the lake in Arambol on Friday night, but insisted that steps are being made to curb rave parties along Pernem’s coastal belt.

Yet another collapse of the Pernem tunnel, the only one holding the whole 760 km long Konkan railway line to ransom, in Goa sector has postponed the deadline, making its commissioning impossible before January 1998.
Though there were no casualties as in the past, the collapse occurred on 26 august could restart the work at the 1.5 km long tunnel on the northern border of Goa only on 1 October, losing 36 days.
The KRC engineers and the brave labourers are struggling hard for last six and a half years to dig through the Pernem tunnel, where they predict to come across a hard rock of 49 mts.

Though Railway Minister Ram Vilas Paswan assured the commission that the line linking the west coast to the rest of the country would be ready this month, it looks unlikely before January.
The Konkan Railway already runs between Bombay and Sawantwadi in Maharashtra, and between Mangalore in Karnataka and Pernem station in Goa, covering a total of 738 kms.
But unless the 22 kms between Pernem and Sawantwadi are connected, the project will not be complete.

Congress MLA from Pernem Jeetendra Deshprabhu and as many as 300 of his supporters were arrested for obstructing rail traffic at Pernem railway station in North Goa today.
