 | | Peroneus brevis and peroneus longus, located on the lateral side of the leg, are the main evertors of the foot; in addition, they assist with plantar flexion of the ankle. |
 | | Peroneus longus crosses the cuboid tuberosity, runs in a groove on the underside of the cuboid bone, and continues across the sole of the foot to insert on the first metatarsal and medial cuneiform. |
 | | Flexor digitorum longus, located deep inside the calf, is primarily a plantar flexor of the second through fifth toes; however, like flexor hallucis longus, it also assists with plantar flexion of the ankle and inversion of the foot. |
