Wicca - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Similarly, all Wiccans and most Witches are Pagans, but not all Pagans are Witches and Wiccans (It is worth noting that not all witches consider themselves to be pagan, and consider witchcraft to be purely a method and tradition of practicing magic, holding no religious value in itself).
Many Gardnerian Wiccans do not claim to be dualist, but rather, may practice some form of polytheism, often with particular reference to the Celtic pantheons; they may also be animists, pantheists, or indeed any of the other ranges of possibilities.
In usual rites the Wiccans assemble inside a magic circle, which is drawn out in a ritual manner followed by a cleansing and then blessing of the space.

Witch-hunt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This new term was intended to refer to the persecution of women by patriarchy to include both the European Witchhunts as well as the "entire patriarchal rule." The use of the "Burning Times" to refer to the Witchhunts by Neo-Pagans occurred when Starhawk subsequently introduced the term into her book, "The Spiral Dance" in 1979.
It had been proposed that the witch-hunt developed in Europe after the Cathars and the Templar Knights were exterminated and the Inquisition had to turn to persecution of witches to remain active.

Second-wave feminists also used the Murray thesis as proof that the witch trials were aimed at persecuting those practicing an old pagan religion but they added their own twist by emphasizing the gender of those accused and then placing full blame for the persecution on the male patriarchal authorities.
On the one hand, second-wave American feminists and modern pagans appropriated the figure of the witch and the concept of witchcraft to fulfill their own agendas, creating aspects of these that were not present in the historical evidence.
Feminists and pagans alike appropriated this history for their own and in doing so, effectively distorted the way in which the public would view it forever.
