 Consumer guide: Personal video recorders
Personal video recorders, also called digital video recorders or PVRs or DVRs, are the handiest television accessory you've never heard of.
All PVRs carry a live TV buffer of 20-30 minutes, so if you turn on the television in live TV mode and it's in the middle of a program you'd like to see, you can rewind to the beginning of the show and watch it.
Because the show is recorded as it's displayed, there is a fraction of a second delay between live TV and TiVo's live TV, which can be annoying if you have the same program playing on two televisions in separate rooms.
