| | Personal Watercraft Safety & Operator Responsibility |
 | | Couple the rise in accident statistics with sales of personal watercraft jumping from 29,000 sold in 1987 to nearly 200,000 in 1997, and it is readily apparent the PWC owners and rental businesses are drawing the attention of the public and their legislators. |
 | | A Personal watercraft is defined as a vessel which uses and inboard motor powering a water jet pump as the primary source of motive power, and which is designed to be operated by a person sitting, standing, or kneeling on the vessel, rather than the conventional manner of sitting or standing inside the vessel. |
 | | Personal watercraft should always yield the right-of-way to other vessels, such as those engaged in fishing, large/deep-draft ships and commercial vessels, anchored boats, and stationary vessels not under command. |
