Personnel Armor System for Ground Troops Helmet
The Personnel Armor System Ground Troops (PASGT) helmet (also known as the “Helmet, Ground Troops and Parachutists,” the “K-pot” or the “Kevlar”) is the standard infantry helmet.
The suspension system and headband are 1.5 inches wide and hook/loop tape is used to attach the headband to the suspension assembly.
In cases where the PASGT or ACH helmets are fitted or worn improperly, the Soldier is exposed to increased risk of injury due to ballistic threats (fragmentation) or concussion.

Personnel Armor System for Ground Troops Helmet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Personal Armor System Ground Troops Helmet (PASGT, pronounced 'Pass-get')—also known as the "Fritz" helmet after its resemblance to the German Stahlhelm—is a Kevlar helmet issued as standard infantry combat wear in the US Military.
The PASGT Helmet is said to have stopped rifle rounds on occasion, most commonly 7.62 x 39 mm (AK-47) rounds (in one account the PASGT helmet is credited with stopping an AK-47 round from approximately 25 metres range).
Unlike the M1 Helmet, the PASGT Helmet cannot be used as a cooking pot or wash basin as these uses will degrade the Kevlar.

Personnel Armor System for Ground Troops Vest - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Personnel Armor System for Ground Troops Vest was the United States Military's standard kevlar body armor from the early 1980's until approximately 2004, when it was replaced by the Interceptor body armor.
The PASGT Vest itself replaced the Vietnam War-era M-1969 nylon vest and used Kevlar for the first time in the United States military's body armor.
While incapable of stopping bullets from an automatic rifle, the PASGT Vest provided better protection against shrapnel and reduced the severity of injuries from small arms fire when compared to the M-1969.

This is why motorcycle and bike helmets have surrounded the entire head with shock absorbing material so the inside wall of the helmet does not smash against the skull and injure it with concussion and collapse.
The helmet consisted of a one-piece steel bowl with a head suspension system and hinged earplates or cheekplates which extended down on to the sides of the face in line with the leather flyer's helmet.
The initial impetus to the development of body armor for the American flyer was due to the research and field testing which the British had performed in an attempt to develop some form of personnel armor for their ground troops operating in North Africa.

The PASGT (Personnel Armor System for Ground Troops), was introduced in the early 1980s.
The only problem with the new armor, aside from up to eight pounds of additional weight (depending on how many of the small plates are used), is that it cannot be manufactured quickly enough to replace the hundreds of thousands of older type vests already in use.

Designed to fit under the standard U.S. Army Personnel Armor System Ground Troops helmet and the newer Advanced Combat Helmet, the ITH provides hearing protection through both active and passive noise reduction technologies and enables Soldiers to communicate in the high-noise environment - up to 95-plus decibels -- typical of the M1114 up-armored HMMWV.
Also, he said, the new ITH can be put on or quickly removed without requiring Soldiers to remove their helmet -- “this is an absolute requirement for Soldiers who might have to quickly dismount from their HMMWV for combat or security operations,” said Claiborne.
