Perushtitsa is a Bulgarian town located in the Plovdiv Oblast on the feet of the Rodopi mountains.
The town is famous throughout Bulgaria for the fight that took place there in 1876 during the April Uprising against the Ottoman reign.
The use of a special grape was invented in Perushtitsa, leading to a typical Bulgarian wine, Mavrud.

The keep of Prestitsa, which was part of a defensive fortress from the town of the Second Bulgarian kingdom, rose west of it.
In its long history Perushtitsa has proven to be their successor, bearing the name of the Slavic god Perun.

The city of Perushtitsa is famous throughout Bulgaria because of the bloody uprising against the Ottoman occupation that took place in April 1876.
The uprising was the first step towards the liberation of Bulgaria, but the particular event in Perushtitsa ended in a dramatic murder of close to 600 people who were hiding from the Ottoman army in the church in the city.
In the middle of the church is a commemorative tomb, with fragments of Ivan Vazov's poem about the events in Perushtitsa.

After having seen the Red Church and the church that was attacked by the Ottoman army, it was interesting to see the museum that talks about these two things.
The canon is a replica on one that was used to defend the city in the late 1800's, particularly in the uprising against the Ottoman rulers.

Perushtitsa is known us one of the best Bulgarian winemaker places.
Maybe you have never heard about Bulgarian wine, but I have to tell you that it is one of the best wines in the whole world.

PERUSHTITSA, Bulgaria – As thunderstorms roll across the Rudopi Mountains here in south central Bulgaria, the locals have taken cover and everyone in this small town are hunkering down for a quiet Saturday night.
For the past month and a half the B-15 group has been hard at work learning Bulgarian, teaching at local schools and trying to adapt to Bulgarian life.
So training, although tedious and tiresome at times, is a great time to prepare yourself for the two years at await you.

There were found buried a waggon with horses, that are supposed to have participated in a funeral of a an important Thracian lord or merchant, buried in the hill.
In 1851 in Perushtitsa came some Nikola Maradzhi from Tzarigrad(The old name of Istanbul) with permission to search some family treasure, that belonged to his father.
But he couldn't find anything so he left the ground that he had to a poor farmer.

Because of t he great number of sunny days in Bulgaria there are different types of grapes.
Some of the most delicious red wines are C abernet Sauvignon from Svishtov, Sliven and Yambol, Mavrud from Assenovgrad and Perushtitsa, Gamsa from Pleven, Suhindol and Novo Selo, Wine from Melnik.
Bulgaria has a special tradition on 14 February dedicated to the wine producers, tavern keepers and gardeners.

French electrical equipment maker Schneider Electric recently announced plans for a $7.3 million investment in Bulgaria to relocate its current electrical breakers plant to a large unit with several times higher capacity.
"The financial performance of the existing plant in Perushtitsa is a step ahead of all other units of Schneider Electric throughout Europe,” said Valchan Valchanov, communications manager of Schneider Electric’s Bulgarian division.
The new plant will become a key regional exporting center for Schneider Electric.
