 IN SERVICE: PERVIS !
If Ellison was ever going to be a Rick Pitino Celtic, he had to add weight, build muscle, and be ready to work as he never had worked before.
He had heard all about Ellison and, as he put it yesterday, "I wasn't overly optimistic." His gym is for the maniacal and fanatical.
Ellison is playing more confidently and, for the first time in years, he is pain free.

At 6’9”, 210, Pervis was one of the first undersized, wiry “speed-over-size” postmen in the league, a predecessor to the Duncans and Garnetts of the league.
Pervis wouldn’t back you down to score, he’d throw about 2 quick moves to get around you to score, and when he was on, he was dangerous.
Pervis went on to average a mere 37 games a year from that magical 1991 season to the rest of his career.

Or else her then-boyfriend, NBA star Pervis Ellison, was playing a joke on her.
To see the house now--a grand, gorgeous, you-have-to-stop-and-stare structure recently appraised at more than $2 million--it is hard to believe that this very house, with its soaring ceilings and take-your-breath-away view, is the same house that sent Timi running to the phone to call her mother the first time she saw it.
And even Pervis admits that, before the couple contracted the talents of a primarily African-American team of architects and builders that transformed his bohemian bachelor pad into the house of their dreams, Timi's "Addams Family house" comparison wasn't far off the mark.

But "Never Nervous," as Ellison was called, lived up to his handle as he torched Duke's veteran frontline of Alarie, Jay Bilas and David Henderson on 10-of-14 shooting for 25 points with 11 rebounds.
NBA nightmare: Ellison stayed four years at Louisville but was never named to The Sporting News' All-America first team (he earned a second-tem nod in '89) or carried the Cardinals' to NCAA heights again.
Ellison has been a serviceable NBA player, but you expect a lot more than Ellison's 9.7 points and 6.8 rebounds career averages entering this season.

A consensus All-American in 1989, “Never Nervous Pervis” was named MVP of the 1989 Metro Conference Tournament, an award he also won as a freshman.

Another stirring finish last week carried Louisville over Duke, 72-69, by the caprice in the fading seconds of a Cardinal shot so badly missed that only another Louisville man was in a position to jump for the ball: 6-ft. 9-in.
As wiry as a mouth full of braces, three days shy of 19, Ellison instantly followed the shot into the basket and before long followed the basket to the foul line.
Ellison became the center of the team only after the incumbent was declared academically ineligible.

After leading Louisville to the 1986 NCAA Championship and garnering MVP respects in the Final, "Never Nervous" Pervis Ellison surfaced as a prime NBA prospect.

My older brother was 14 at the time and, I believe, convinced that he was a younger version of either Ellison's teammate Milt Wagner or LSU's Chris Jackson — he wrote "CJ" on the back of his basketball shoes, which also seemed really cool.
Louisville beat Duke in the 1986 title game, 72-69, Ellison was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player and all seemed pretty stable in the college basketball universe from where I was sitting.
