 Pet Sematary’ (R)
With the exception of "Carrie" and "The Shining," the novels of Stephen King have not made the transition to film particularly well, so it should be little surprise that "Pet Sematary" is another DOA -- Dog on Arrival.
Since the book was a humongous bestseller, "Pet Sematary's" plot is hardly the world's best-kept secret: A nice clean nuclear family plus precious cat move to an apparently idyllic but long-abandoned ultrarural house with a flinty neighbor who initiates them into the lore of an ancient dead-pet preserve in their backyard.
Up to now, "Pet Sematary" has been decidedly mundane, with director Mary Lambert resorting to everything from a trilling chorus and noodling Satie-ish piano to portentous dialogue, sleight-of-camera and jump cuts (Lambert cuts, you jump).

: Pet Sematary Two - DVD film
Perhaps, the characters in "Pet Sematary II" are just weak in general (no disrespect to Clancy Brown or Anthony Edwards), but something is missing here in part two of this series despite the similarities in the dark and disturbing atmosphere painted so meticulously by Lambert.
The basic premise behind this movie appears to be that the evil force behind the pet sematary is calling upon Furlong's character to resort to the pet sematary to bring back his mother along with some incredible evil as well.
"Pet Sematary Two" was directed by the same Mary Lambert who directed the original "Pet Sematary" and the similarities in style are clearly evident between the two movies.
