There no doubt that this is the pet shop boys finest album (with the exception of Behaviour) - I strongly disagree with the reviewer; the song she likes best is the "The Samurai In Autumn" which I think is the worst song.
Straightforward PSB pop is still in evidence however in the opening track, but then we either descend or ascend, (according to taste) into much heavier sounding material with the anthemic I Get Along, and the gentler opening lead to rousing finale of Birthday Boy.
Not everyone is attuned to the Pet Shop Boy's unique blend of electro-pop married with thoughtful lyrics: it doesn't fit the bill on the skateboard rink these days, but I stand by the superior quality of this album.

Lowe and Tenant brought their common musical interests together in 1982 under the name Pet Shop Boys, a name which may very be derived from something as innocuous as friends of theirs who worked in a pet shop.
