PETCO Park is an open-air stadium in downtown San Diego, California.
The official address of PETCO Park is 19 Tony Gwynn Way, in honor of the eight-time National League batting champion who wore that uniform number during his entire major league career with the Padres.
In the first game ever played at PETCO park, on March 11, 2004, the San Diego State University Aztec baseball team, of which Gwynn is the head coach, notched a victory.

The stadium is named after the pet food retailer PETCO, which is based in San Diego and paid for the naming rights (since the retailer spells its name in all capital letters, the spelling "Petco Park" is not correct).
The construction cost of over $450 million was partially funded by the Centre City Development Corporation, the San Diego Redevlopment Agency, and the stadium is intended to be part of a comprehensive plan to revitalize San Diego's aging downtown, particularly the East Village area east of the Gaslamp Quarter.
When the Padres announced that PETCO (which is based in San Diego) had obtained naming rights to PETCO Park, PETA was unable to pursuade the Padres to terminate the agreement.

The clay exterior of Petco Park fits well with the overall architecture of San Diego, but not necessarily well with the downtown buildings which are more modern and feature a nautical theme.
Inside, the park has some nice features, but it has a somewhat choppy feel as the concourses and seating areas don't flow well from a design standpoint.
The other feature of Petco Park I like is the incorporation of the Western Metal Supply Co. building.

First, the exterior is made of a red-orange stone that gives the park a natural feel...the team offices look like some sort of space age adobe (you have to see it to know what I mean).
Lastly, the park has lawn seating outside of the ballpark (past right center field) that allows fans to purchase tickets for $5 and see the game in a laid-back atmosphere much like an outdoor amphitheatre.
Petco Park is the only ballpark in the Majors named after a pet supply retail chain...thankfully.

Park in the Park doesn't have much of a view and they kick you out when they have firework shows.
Well, they pay for the park inorder for you toenjoy the Padres, I agree it looks like someone let a 3 year old color all over the park, but they're paying good money and it makes everything cheaper in the end.
