Interview: Pirate Pete - Interview's actor of the month - interview with actor Pete Postlethwaite - Interview   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-07-13)
Pete Postlethwaite transforms himself into each character he plays, there's no escaping his trademark - a ruddy, angular, unfinished phiz that looks like it was designed by Francis Bacon after a restless night reading Charles Dickens.
He hasn't turned his back on working-class English regionalism, however: He was outstanding as the dying Yorkshire band leader in Brassed Off (1996), a role that seemed close to his heart, and this month pulls off his first romantic lead (opposite Rachel Griffiths) as a pylon worker, another Northerner, in Among Giants.
For Postlethwaite, the part was a welcome opportunity to strip away layers in order to show his softer, more vulnerable side - which shines through even more clearly in person.
