MERRILLVILLE, Ind. – U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky, D-Ind., announced today (Thursday, 1/10) that he is seeking $7 million in federal funding to place a high-tech business incubator in northwest Indiana modeled after a successful facility at the Purdue Research Park in West Lafayette.
Visclosky is asking for $6 million in federal funding for construction and infrastructure costs for the high-tech incubator – to be called the Purdue Technology Center of Northwest Indiana –; and $1 million over four years for operating costs.

Pete Visclosky, D-Ind., announced Tuesday that Northwest Indiana will receive $24.275 million for flood control, infrastructure and environmental projects under the Energy and Water Appropriations Act that is set to pass both houses of Congress and signed into law by President Bush.
According to Visclosky, the projects, which will be directed at flood control projects, environmental cleanup efforts and investment in local infrastructure, are all part of improving the quality of life in Northwest Indiana.
Visclosky was also able to secure $300,000 for an ecosystem restoration project for Cedar Lake.

Lugar, Bayh, and Visclosky have engaged in an aggressive effort to reclassify the Lake County Hospitals after the county's classification was switched by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from urban to rural, despite the fact that the Lake County Hospitals incur costs similar to Chicago-area hospitals.
The Lugar, Bayh, and Visclosky coordinated campaign will ensure that the Lake County Hospitals do not face drastic budget cuts because of a decision at the Health Care Financing Administration, which is responsible for classifying hospitals nationwide for the purposes of deciding Medicare reimbursement rates.
