Otherwise known as "Pete, the Dog With the Ring Around His Eye", or simply "Petey", he was famous for having a circled eye that was added on by Hollywood make-up artist Max Factor and credited as an oddity in Ripley's Believe It or Not.
The original Pete named Pal the Wonder Dog had a natural ring almost completely around his eye; dye was used to finish it off.
One is a wooden puppet which was based on the 1927 Walter Lantz cartoon titled "Pete the Pup" aka.

The last 'true Pete' OG comedy (meaning Pete #1 and his son) was "The Pooch" (1932).
After leaving Roach, Pete (#2) went to NY, and appeared in the Fatty Arbuckle short "Buzzin' Around" and in Paramount's "Broadway Highlights" newsreel, in which he is seen drinking a mug of beer as his initiation into The Lambs Club.
Pete first got his break in show business in the 1920s when he took over Pal's — his dad — place in the Buster Brown silent movies.

The Sopwith Pup was a single seater biplane fighter aircraft used by the British in World War I. It was manufactured by the Sopwith Aviation Company and was officially named the Sopwith Scout.
The first Pups reached the Western Front in October of 1916 and a total of 1,770 were built.

The second Pete has the circle on the opposite eye and the ears and front legs have a slightly different coloring.
Maybe the very first Pete was a bulldog, but I know that the rest of the Petes from that point on have been American Pit Bull Terriers.

The pup I called "Irish" was an ugly looking pup and my father was not really interested in keeping it because of it's looks, but I fell in love with it.
I really liked this pup because it was the son of two of my favorite dogs to play with, Pete and a dog by the name of HENRY MOORE'S BETH.

Some of the most enjoyable moments in the films of this period comes from simply watching Wheezer frolic in bed with Pete the Pup or seeing his face light up with honest admiration while listening to the latest rambling stories from his pal Stymie.
