Peter Anghelides has really brought to life two companions who had started to slip into blandness in the preceding books.
Anghelides does this by having much of the novel narrated by Fitz in the first person, and in doing so performs miracles.
Peter Anghelides too has developed his style considerably from Kursaal, and I shall be awaiting the next installment from his pen with a great deal of impatience.

Peter Anghelides should be the equivalent of Douglas Adams or Dave Stone, but his plotting's atrocious and he just can't deliver the wit to compensate.
Anghelides goes to some real effort to characterise Fitz and restore some of the outsider and pretender qualities that made him so appealing in The Taint and have subseqently been ignored since Demontage.
The story is one that Anghelides has tread before (in his previous 8th Doctor adventure, Kursaal): issues of environmental corruption and abuse, what effect does manipulation of the ecosphere seem to have on the Universe as a whole.

On reading the works of Peter Anghelides, one of the new talents developed after the BBC took over the production of Doctor Who novels from Virgin Books, I can't help but think that we're looking at a writer whose best work is yet to come.
This would have been a challenging situation for any first-time author, but in addition, Anghelides was writing for the Eighth Doctor, who'd had very little time either on screen or in print to establish a definitive portrayal.
I'm certain that Peter Anghelides has the potential to be one of the stand-outs of the range...

MIRROR, SIGNAL, MANOEUVRE   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
Established Doctor Who novelist Peter Anghelides makes his audio debut in the fifth and last of Big Finish's initial series of Sarah-Jane adventures, in which she is finally brought face to face with the nemesis who has been manipulating her life and to whom the murderous Harris has been reporting.
Once again Elisabeth Sladen is in fine form as Sarah, and probably for the first time both Jeremy James as Josh and Sadie Miller as Nat are both give enough to do to make a good impression as well.
Peter Anghelides' tight script, well directed again by Gary Russell, maintains a brisk pace, never allowing the listener's attention to wander.

Carrie was also quite excited as this is the first Sci-Fi show she really got into on her own (the only other one was Blake's 7 which I had to prod her on a bit at first).
Peter Woodward and Carrie Dobro (Dureena Nafeel) taking every chance to poke fun at each other and David Allen Brooks (who seemed quite out of it that day).
Peter was quite funny and offered to sign pretty much anything bought at the auction.

Unfortunately, I kind of got the impression while I was reading this that Anghelides was saying, "If Orman/Blum can do Vampires in Doctor Who, by golly, I can do Werewolves." In other words, perhaps it premature to have an old horror movie monster as the villain so soon after the vampire story.
The Jax (wolfmen) are treated like they are infected with a virus (one that the head honcho of Kursaal thinks can be cured with a healthy dose of explosives).
Anghelides has a very creative imagination in the gizmos he invents to solve problems throught the story.

Amazon.co.uk: Torchwood: Another Life (Torchwood): Books: Peter Anghelides   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
Thankfully this rather generic warrior is accompanied by some non-talking starfish creatures which lead to some of the novels better moments...
The only slight downside to this is that the novel is almost entirely lacking any strong or well-developed original supporting characters, as Anghelides concentrates exclusively on the Torchwood regulars, with (a few short death scenes aside) practically every paragraph seen through the eyes of one of the TV series stars.
As with the TV series Captain Jack's immortality is something of a problem dramatically, as thanks to the aliens modus operandi it becomes very obvious early on how Jack will end up defeating the menace.

Dr Who Ancestor Cell Book Review: Doctor Who t-shirts and reviews from Androzani.com
Where Alien Bodies kicked everything off with breathtaking panache, the conclusions Anghelides and Cole drag out of Miles's concepts are disappointingly pedestrian.
The real nature of the Edifice is obviously supposed to come as a surprise, but we thought it was clear right from the beginning despite the attempts at misdirection.
Anghelides and Cole do manage a why for them, but as it's Because We Want To Take Over The Universe we weren't very impressed.

I don’t know why, but I was trawling my bookmarks the other day and I came across one for Peter Anghelides[1] that I don’t visit very often.
I mention this because Peter writes Doctor Who fiction.
To date he’s written three novels, several short stories and at least one audio script.

Kursaal is by Peter Anghelides, who I'm told previously wrote a couple of short stories for Doctor Who anthologies.
Anghelides has a good writing style, and it keeps things moving at a steady pace.

The "Crusade" cast was well-represented, with Peter Woodward, David Allen Brooks, Denise Gentile, Marjean Holden and Daniel Dae Kim assembled together, surely the largest Crusade actor gathering since the cancellation of the TNT spinoff series.
Stephen Cole did a brilliant job hosting, including a rendition of "My Way", while Peter Anghelides and Justin Richards continued their comic sense with "The Glitz & Drax Insurance Hour".
Jason Haigh-Ellery and India Fisher participated in a skit, while Simon Bucher-Jones attempted musical comedy (and was himself removed from the stage!) The Federation's Robert Warnock, Scott Alan Woodard and Jennifer Kelly performed "Derided Loyalties" while the group of British authors did their usual hack job with "Go West".

Doctor Who Parallel 59 by Stephen Cole and Natalie Dallaire
Not only must the Doctor recover his beloved time machine, but he must also save Fitz from the true nightmare of Mechta...
This is the first novel by the editor of the BBC books, Stephen Cole, and it looks as though it could have been a real disaster, a case of too many chefs (Peter Anghelides is acknowledged to have helped out also).
But Anghelides seems to have carried on with the most effective device of the previous novel (his own 'Frontier Worlds'), by having Fitz narrate his time in Mechta.
