Edward was born in Bondgate, Ripon, as were all of his siblings, but his father, Peter BURNETT, was a Bishop Monkton man. There is very convincing evidence to suggest that, after his father's premature death in 1727, Edward's mother moved the family back to Bishop Monkton; where they were supported by parish relief.
There is also strong evidence to support the case for this Edward, son of Peter BURNETT, being the Edward BURNETT who married Elizabeth ASHBY at Kirkby Malzeard in 1750 and settled in Littlethorpe.
She was not, therefore, the Elizabeth BURNETT, spinster of Littlethorpe, whose burial was recorded in the Ripon parish register on 19 Dec 1781.
