  Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Peter Cannon . . . Thunderbolt
Peter CannonThunderbolt (the ellipsis […] being part of the title logo but not the official title as indicated by the indicia) was among the few remembered for a reasonable level of quality.
Peter's only desire as a reluctant member of civilization was to live in peaceful seclusion, but he was repeatedly forced to put on his old training outfit (with a mask added by Tabu, to enable him to preserve anonymity), and deal with deadly forces that only he was equipped to handle.
Peter Cannon was the basis for Watchmen's Adrian Veidt, aka Ozymandias.

Thunderbolt, a thoughtful superhero comic that contained some of the earliest respectful invocations of Eastern mysticism in American pop culture.
Born and reared in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, Morisi was educated at the High School of Industrial Arts (since renamed the High School of Art and Design), and the Cartoonists and Illustrators School (now the School of Visual Arts), both in Manhattan.
When DC Comics bought the rights to Charlton's superhero properties in 1983, Thunderbolt was one of characters originally planned for use in writer Alan Moore's miniseries Watchmen; when DC chose to save those characters for other uses, Moore adapted him into Ozymandias (Adrian Veidt).

His portrayal of Peter Parker as a basically decent, fundamentally nice guy and good friend was a refreshing island in a sea of otherwise uninterrupted whiney self pity, an emotion that has never seemed particularly justifiable in Parker ever since he cashed his first large check as a photojournalist.
(Peter David did some good HULK stuff, but only after substantially changing the character's basic behavior.) Stern's run was quirkier than Englehart's, featuring as it did a pretty weird cast of supporting characters that included SHIELD superagent Marvel Man and itinerant stage magician and wannabe con man Kropotkin the Great.
That Strike's uniquely modern fashion included stealing his operating capital from local drug pushers, and that he had to wear big, thick glasses because his power belt, inconveniently, did not correct his lousy, bookworm vision, was just a part of the character's undeniable charm.

Using non-lethal weaponry and technology, the Peacemaker battled tyranny and injustice around the globe, until the Charlton folks ditched their superhero titles for such funny-animal animated characters as Underdog, Rocky and Bullwinkle, and Yogi Bear.
Years later, DC Comics acquired the trademarks to Charlton's Action Heroes (which also included Steve Ditko's the Question and Blue Beetle, and a character called Peter Cannon, Thunderbolt) and made half-hearted attempts at integrating them into its existing universe.
When noted comics scribe Alan Moore developed the concept for a graphic novel entitled Watchmen, his original intent was to resurrect the Charlton heroes and to use them to deconstruct the superhero mythology.
