Peter Chung: Well, it's a bit ironic, because Aeon Flux was originally intended to be a parody or mockery of the typical Hollywood heroic action movie.
Peter Chung: Well, you may have been one of the people who understoood that, but I still get people coming up to me saying, "I really like your drawings, but why didn't you write a story?" And they assumed this because there were no words.
Peter Chung: A lot of people didn't understand that the robot was the main character, and that I didn't think the robot would speak English.

Peter Chung - Anime Academy Lounge
Peter Chung is the mastermind behind such series as "Aeon Flux", "Reign: The Conqueror", and a set of animated shorts titled "Chicken".
I have to show Peter Chung some respect, his character designs show an original sense of style if nothing else, and his stories are usually pretty original (albeit a bit cryptic, and redundant at times).
Peter Chungs designs always felt as if they were more reserved for comics, but he seems to be pretty content with doing designs for animation, so I say more power to him.

 IGN: Interview: Peter Chung
Fourteen years later, Chung finally sees his creation restored to her full figure (svelte as that may be) in not one but two incarnations: first in the new DVD set Aeon Flux: The Complete Animated Collection, and next week in the live-action update, directed by Girlfight's Karyn Kusama and starring Oscar winner Charlize Theron.
Chung: No, no. The live action movie is its own thing and this is its own universe, and the idea is that they are different interpretations of the same character, but there's no real overlap or connection between the two in terms of a timeline or a continuity.
Chung: Well, you kind of just have to accept the way that it is, which is if you want your show to be on the air… when you develop a show for a network, the deal is that they own it.

For Chung, creating an animated world that suggested and conveyed the lustful ambiguities and subterranean psychic violence that grown men and women often struggle with even in the best of times made "Aeon Flux" far more than a mere cartoon.
For Manfredi and Hay, the two screenwriters charged with the tricky task of transferring Chung's intimately personal vision from the small screen to a full-blown, big-budget Hollywood experience, those adult ambiguities were both signposts and hurdles.
Ultimately, though, Chung's hopes for the movie have little to do with grand ideas about changing the way that people view their entertainment, or how neatly Manfredi, Hay and Kusama have meshed their vision of "Aeon" with his own.
