Peter Edward Cook was born in Torquay on 17 November, 1937 to Alexander and Margaret Cook.
Cook made appearances in a number of programmes throughout the 1980s, notably as Richard III in the first series of Blackadder but he also made a successful show for ITV, Peter Cook and Co, most memorable for a sketch involving Roald Dahl setting fire to his own living room.
Peter Cook died on 9 January, 1995, having suffered a gastrointestinal haemorrhage (a direct result of severe liver damage) in the intensive-care unit of the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, North London.
