 Nicholas' Homepage
Not only is the fateful battle described hour by hour, the catastrophe that led to the fall of the Swedish supremacy, but Peter Englund is also thorughly filling the historical events with human voices from the participants: the general and his servants, the soldier and the supply boy, the army chaplain and the soldier widow.
As usual, Peter Englund tells about this man from all possible angles, the big and the small perspective, the domestic and the foreign eyes.
In Peter the Great, both the medieval Russia, as it was when Peter was born is, and the much different Russia he created with his energy, talents, and unsparingness is brought alive.
